Locking mechanism

As I move forward with the development of the sofa, I’m beginning to question the viability of the current locking mechanism for the backrest. From a structural standpoint, it’s becoming clear that the forces applied will likely be too concentrated on a small area, which could compromise both durability and user safety. Rather than investing time and resources into engineering around a potential weak point, I’m considering whether this complexity adds real value.

In line with lean development principles, I’m evaluating whether the added functionality of converting the sofa into a daybed is a necessary feature—or if it simply introduces confusion to the design without clear user demand. At this stage, it might be more beneficial to focus on creating a well-resolved, simple sofa that does its primary job exceptionally well. Stripping back to core functionality allows me to test, learn, and refine with greater clarity—ensuring the final product is both purposeful and buildable.
